Whelen Southern Modified Tour Powers Through Hampton

NWSMTNASCAR’s Whelen Southern Modified touring series rolled through the small town of Hampton, Virginia for their first visit of the year. Langley Speedway was the playground for these 625 horsepower, wide wheeled, low riding power houses! I was worried for a bit that I would miss the race for the most part because I had to work my regular job till 9pm that evening, well lucky for me the support classes took a bit longer than usual to finish their events. I was able to get to the track, park and get into the track just as the cars fired up their engines.

CB6Newport News, VA – From Late Model Stock Car to the Legends division, all drivers are welcomed with open arms to the office of The Weekly Racer! This week we feature a driver who impressed me with his S.M.A.R.T Goals. This my friends the one things that stuck with me through college  and to see this man applying such knowledge towards his racing career was great to see. For those who may not know, a SMART goal is something thought out, planned, something you can measure and accomplish in a timely manner, of course some people have different definitions for the term. Let me take a moment to introduce you to this weeks driver coming to us from Yorktown, Virginia, Mr. Collin Brown.

Brenden “Butterbean” Queen Ready To Hit The Asphalt.

2Chesapeake, VA — For the second week in a row we have featured a young driver who is working towards their dream of one day racing in the big leagues of motor sports! Brenden Queen aka “Butterbean” is a junior in high school who will be returning to Langley Speedway this year for his sophomore season in the Late Model Stock Car division. Brenden ended up finishing 8th in points, only 123 points back from track champion C. E. Falk. Queen’s 2013 top 10 finish which also helped him earn Rookie of the Year honors. “It felt so great to accomplish our main goal, Brenden told me about winning Rookie of the Year. ”Running up front was just a plus to everything we could have asked for.”

Though Queen is coming off his rookie season in LMSC, Brenden has been racing since he was seven years old. Going 3 for 3 with back-to-back-to-back championships, and collecting 31 wins running karts on dirt! At such a young age it pretty much seemed like Brenden was supposed to be behind the wheel. Things did not stop there of course, next for Brenden was Arena Racing. For those who may not know what that is, these are for the lack of a longer description go-karts with suspension and a fiberglass body running on a tiny, high banked aluminum track inside an indoor stadium! Brandon Atkinson Excited to Get Back Behind The Wheel

post

Mechanicsville, VA :: After taking the 2013 season off to market himself and his race team, local driver Brandon Atkinson is more than ready to suit up and get back behind the wheel of the #15 machine. I had some time to sit down and talk to this young man about his racing career and plans for the 2014 season and after chatting with Brandon you would think you were talking to a Nascar driver who has been in the business for a while. He was very receptive and willing to answer questions and I honestly feel as if he had a great time. Head over to his interview in the Driver Series page to get to know this young man on a more personal level.

Langley Speedway 2014 Special Event Preview

NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour:
April 12, 2014 & August 30, 2014
The southern mods make their way back to Langley Speedway this year not once but twice! The southern tour will help kick things off in 2014 by making their first stop on week two of the Langley season. It was a great turnout for this touring division that ran at the end of August. The only issue I see with this stop being so early in the season are the chilly spring nights. April nights can be right cold in these parts! Hopefully this will not keep the fans away! Just remember to bring a couple extra jackets and a blanket! Read more
