JAMAICA, VA – The Ultimate Super Late Model Series along with the Fastrak Pro Late Model series rolled into the 1/2 mile dirt track with twenty-three supers and twenty-two crate late models signed in for the 41st annual USA 100 at Virginia Motor Speedway.The biggest name there was National Dirt Late Model Hall of Famer Scott Bloomquist coming to town hunting for thr $20,000 payout for first place.
Bloomquist went out in the first group of cars and laid down a 16.671 second lap, just slightly off the track record of 16.509. In group two Earl Pearson Jr ran a 17.267 to grab the pole in his heat race and in group three Dale McDowell ran a 17.282. The heat races went quickly without any major incident and all the pole sitters keeping their top spots to start 1-2-3 in the 60-lap feature.
In the feature the Bloomquist jumped out to a lead early on and faced no real opposition through the race. Just fifteen laps in he was starting to lap cars but that was stopped on lap-18 for the 49 of Johnathan Davenport losing his driveshaft on the racing surface. Coming to the checkers the battle for second place heated up with McDowell and Pearson Jr making contact and Pearson able to take the position. In victory lane Bloomquist confirmed that he was slowing down slightly as his car lost a cylinder during the race, but he was still able to cruise to the finish for his first ULTIMATE Series win. Tyler Millwood finished fourth in the race putting him into first in points after Davenport was not able to finish. In fifth was Kenny Moreland who worked all the way up from starting 22nd in the twenty-three car field.
In the Fastrak series Justin Williams set the overall fast time with a 18.798 second lap out of group two. In group one it was Matthew Nance with a 18.956 and in group three Matthew Quade ran a 19.006. Just like in the ULTIMATE series all the pole setters defended their top positions through their heat races.
In their main the racing was full of lots of three wide racing action and a few cautions that kept the field pretty close to each other. The biggest accident happened on lap thirty with three cars getting collected into the guard rail to set up a ten lap run to the finish. Ross Bailes got a great restart off the single file line and looked to be cruising to his win. Benji Hicks started reeling him in with four laps remaining but wound up finishing a half second behind Bailes. Unfortunately for Bailes he was light on the scales and Hicks would inherit the win. In Victory Lane a very emotional Hicks and family dedicated the win to his grandmother who passed away two years ago. With the win Hicks holds a two point lead over Jensen Ford in the Southeast Touring division of Fastrak.
