SWANSBORO, NC – Carteret County Speedway is gearing up for its second full season of racing with 16 scheduled events set to take place in 2017.

The 2017 season will get underway on Sunday, March 12th with a drifting event while the “regular season” will kick off on Sunday, April 2nd. The season will continue with events planned each month through the end of October – with few scheduling conflicts with neighboring tracks in Lucama, North Carolina and Robersonville, North Carolina.

“We’re very excited about the 2017 season,” track owner Bobby Watson said. “We aren’t racing against Southern National Motorsports Park and East Carolina Motor Speedway every week which is good for our racers. We’ve also got a lot more races planned this year.”

After the regular season opens on April 2nd, racing will again pick up on Sunday, April 16th. Saturday, May 20th will play host to the first Saturday night race of the 2016 season and then racing will resume on Sunday night, May 28th.

Entering the summer months, races will be held on June 10th, June 24th, July 5th (a Wednesday night race), July 8th, July 19th (another Wednesday night event), August 12th, August 26th, September 23rd, October 14th and October 28th. In addition to those races, drifting action will again take place on Saturday, October 21st.

The race on Saturday, October 28th will be headlined by an exhibition event for the 602 Super Limited Series. The Limited Late Model tour, headed up by David Sell, is entering its second season after a successful inaugural tour.

A handful of other tours will visit Carteret County Speedway during the 2017 season, which will be announced in the upcoming weeks. Rules and purses will also be announced in the upcoming weeks.

Two Virginia Tracks Prepare for Exciting 2017 Season with New Events

dominion_sobo

Two NASCAR Whelen All-American Series short tracks located just 150-miles apart from each other go into 2017 with almost identical schedules and look to continue the success each had the previous year! While Dominion is looking to get their second year under their belt, South Boston Speedway is looking to open its doors for their 60th season. After going through some major renovations towards the end of 2016 and through the off-season, SoBo will great its fans in 2017 with upgraded bleachers along with a brand new racing surface.

With just fourteen dates on the calendar in 2017, South Boston Speedway officials plan to pack each of those weekends with as much racing action as you can handle with the NASCAR Late Model Stocks running plenty of Twin features along with a good mix of long distance races. Returning the first weekend of July is the Thunder Road Harley-Davidson 200-lap Late Model feature that will surely draw some of the biggest names in LMSC racing as they all fight for the big check. Lee Pulliam has been the man to beat for the past five years and we bet he will be back to defend his crown.

The NASCAR K&N East series will be making a stop at Virginia historic 4/10th mile oval in 2017. A pair of Twin-100 lap race, yes we typed that correctly, two points paying races will be held on the same track on the same day for the K&N series when they make their trip to South Boston, Virginia May 6th. In addition to the K&N series, South Boston will play host to the CARS Tour for the first time in the series three-year history under the new system. The race in September is scheduled to be the season finale for the CARS Tour. Returning to SoBo during the summer will be the PASS South series for their 150-lap feature.

After a vastly successful rookie season, Dominion Raceway enters 2017 with one of the most compact schedules in Virginia running multiple divisions just about every weekend of the season. Officially kicking their 2017 campaign off on March 25th with the CARS Tour coming to town, Dominion Raceway looks to highlight over twenty-three weekends of racing from March all the way to October this upcoming year.

Mirroring a schedule very similar to South Boston, Dominion Raceway will look to continue to draw the large car counts they saw in 2016 as Nick Smith will look to continue his dominance on the high bank 4/10th mile oval. Car counts help play a major role in last years State and National points races and with so many races scheduled in 2017, we have a feeling the track may have the same effect on drivers and the NWAAS points battle becomes clearer.

In addition to the NASCAR Late Model Stocks, returning to Dominion are you Dominion Stocks, Modifieds, UCAR, INEX Legend & Bandos. Special events will also be held on select weekends for both the Mini Mods (a division very similar to if not the same as Mini Stocks in North Carolina) as well as the mini cup cars. The USAC Midgets are also on the schedule to return to Dominion Raceway twice during 2017.

A complete schedule for both tracks can be found below or on their websites. Of course, all events are subject to change at the tracks discretion.

NASCAR: 2016 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour Schedule

NASCAR has finally released the schedule for the 2016 NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified tour this past week. With the twelfth season on the horizon the Southern Modified’s have an eleven race schedule where they will visit seven different tracks. Like 2015 Caraway and the action packed quarter mile at Charlotte will host the season opener and finale respectively. Caraway Speedway will actually host four races this year, taking the dates from two tracks not on the schedule this year. Winston-Salem’s historic Bowman Grey Stadium will once again host its traditional summer event. Following that race will be the annual North/South combo race so to speak held at Bristol Motor Speedway. Which by the way folks, if you can get out there for that weekend you should. You get the modified combo race, truck race, and the Sprint Cup event.

NASCAR has added a new facility to the list of tracks on the 2016 schedule. East Carolina Motor Speedway, a relatively high banked tricky D-Shaped oval, located in Robersonville, North Carolina will host an event Labor Day weekend. “East Carolina Speedway is proud to have the opportunity to host the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour for the first time,” track owner Wayne Perry said. “We really enjoy being a part of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series and this will be a great opportunity to bring a popular NASCAR Touring Series to our track for the fans. It’s going to be a great show.”

Another new addition to the season is the high banked ti-oval of Concord Speedway. Already an interesting event before we even reach 2016. NASCAR will occupy Concord Speedway the same weekend as the PASS South Series. Though the modifieds will not be running that weekend, we find it pretty interesting that NASCAR is having a combo even with another prominent southern touring series. “We’re very happy to help get a race at Concord Speedway back on the NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour schedule,” Concord Speedway promoter Darren Hackett said. “We decided to take one of our races that we would have held at Caraway Speedway and move it there, and the competitors are excited to get to go back to an ultra-fast track.”

2015 NASCAR K&N Series East Schedule Unveiled

Photo: MRN.com

NASCAR has FINALLY released the schedule for their “minor league” – now when I say minor I am more referring to the architecture of baseball – Touring Division that helps feed some of the drivers we see in the top three divisions of the sport. I am sure that Developmental Series is more of an appropriate name for this kind of racing but for me it mimics the structure of the minor league system that the MLB uses.

Yesterday, NASCAR released both East & West schedules for the K&N Pro Series and we find some new destinations for this series as well. Because we are on the east coast and the fact that we have never been out to the west coast, we are going to stay focused here at home!
