Langley PANO

Hampton, VA – The moment drivers, fans, and the City of Hampton has been waiting for. Langley Speedway will officially reopen in 2017. Victory Lane Motorsports operator Bill Mullis announced this afternoon at a press conference with Mayor Tuck at City Hall that a deal has been finalized and Langley Speedway is set to open its doors once again in 2017.

“I would like to thank Mayor Tuck and all of the officials with the City of Hampton through this,” Mullis said in his opening remarks. “I would also like to thank Chesapeake Bank and Hamner Real Estate for making my dreams come true.” Mullis went on to thank those people who have not only stood by his side but has helped him with various aspects of the deal. Mullis had leased and operated the racing facility for several years before the track closed its gates. In what was said to one of the hardest deals of his life to negotiate, Mullis is able to say that he is the sole owner of Langley Speedway.

Mullis also went on to tell more than 500 people viewing the press conference LIVE on the tracks Facebook page that April 1st, 2017 will be when the first green flag will fly for the tracks 66th season. Mullis will be leaving tomorrow, February 18th, to head down to Daytona -where track operators from the NWAAS meet annually – for Speedweeks. He is slated to speak with the folks with NASCAR and has told us they will have more announements this Sunday from New Smyrna Speedway – where the World Series of Asphalt racing as well as the first NASCAR K&N East race of the season is held.

Stay tuned to The Weekly Racer as Langley Speedway officials are set to release their schedule sometime next week. All 11 divisions shall return to the schedule as well as the Hampton Heat 200. More information will be published as it becomes available.

Touring Series: Langley Speedway Opens For 65th Season

Hampton, VA – The time is here, the time is now! A tried and true tradition in the Hampton Roads area in the spring – Langley Speedway opens its gates for crews, drivers, and fans a like. Tonight will mark the 65th year the tricky flat track has been open for business, and I probably don’t have to tell you this year is going to be big!

Yes this is Langley’s first official race of the 2015 NASCAR Whelen All-American Season but, this will be race number two on our Touring Series schedule (2015 Touring Series Schedule). Just like last year we will have you covered LIVE on our Twitter page. If you have not already, head on over (@theweeklyracer), click the follow button and hey while your there give us a little shout out – let us know where your from, who you root for, if your coming to the track – and we will make sure that YOU get retweeted! So, just like last year we will have your lap-by-lap coverage for both the Late Model Stock & Modified qualifying. We will also post your starting five for the Grandstocks, UCARS, Legends & Bandos.

If you didn’t know what to do with your Saturday night, don’t look any further! Teams have been preparing for months to get back to the track and the time has finally come. Not to mention it is starting to look like a star studded line-up, and not to mention we already have our first plot twist before the green flag was even brought out of its peaceful winter slumber!

Last year Matt Waltz – driver of the Waltz Engineered Sales #2 Chevy – racked up an impressive 12 wins, week in and week out battling with previous track champion Greg Edwards, who he eventually would lose the track championship to due to some miscommunication during the Hampton Heat. I am sure everyone in the stands were looking forward to these two going at it again, well its very sad to say we will not see that #2 car just yet. In dealing with a break issue Waltz Racing has declared the car is not at a competitive level, they will continue to work on her and hope for a quick return to the track Waltz Racing.

Looks like we will have quite the line up of LMSC drivers as it has been confirmed that 2014 Southern National Motorsports Park track champion Tommy Lemmons, Jr will be in attendance. He was here yesterday for some testing and told us he felt pretty decent, being it was the first time seeing the track. He will have more time to fine tune his machine to get ready for the difference in banking. It has also been rumored, and we will have to wait till we get to the track, that Deac McCaskill is also going to race tonight.

We will be going LIVE on Twitter this evening around 4:45 PM EDT. Make sure you tune in and even interact!

Langley Speedway to Kick 2014 Season Off April 5th

LS-Opening-2014Most people would agree that a reporter or a journalist should not show any bias towards a story or an event they are covering. Well guys good thing I am not your average reporter or journalist! Langley Speedway has been my home away from home for over 10 years now. I remember when my father took me to my first race back in 2003, needless to say it was love at first sight for me!

Well everyone, it is that time of year again when the car covers come off, the rumble of engines and the sweet smell of cam2 floating through the air! Langley is set to drop the green flag on its 64th season  come Saturday April 5th and I know I can’t be the only one excited to get this season of racing in Hampton Roads “officially” underway. NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour:
April 12, 2014 & August 30, 2014
The southern mods make their way back to Langley Speedway this year not once but twice! The southern tour will help kick things off in 2014 by making their first stop on week two of the Langley season. It was a great turnout for this touring division that ran at the end of August. The only issue I see with this stop being so early in the season are the chilly spring nights. April nights can be right cold in these parts! Hopefully this will not keep the fans away! Just remember to bring a couple extra jackets and a blanket! Read more
