Dixieland Speedway Set to Kick Off 37th Season of Racing This Friday Night
Elizabeth City, NC – Dixieland Speedway will officially begin the 2019 racing season this Friday evening, May 3rd, presented by Budweiser. The event will feature four divisions of racing, including the Budweiser Allstars, Rapid Ron’s Racing Sportsman, Little Caesars Super Streets, and the Biggs Cadillac, Buick, GMC Stock Fours. The Budweiser Allstars will compete in a special 50 lap feature with $2,000 being awarded to the winner.
The upcoming season will see the return of the popular Virginia Sprint Series. The wing midget race cars will visit northeastern North Carolina with drivers hailing from multiple states, including Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Virginia and more on May 10th, June 7thand August 2nd. On June 21st, a special 2-Barrel Late Model Championship race will be held with a $4,000 first place prize being awarded. The schedule boasts 15 races and will last all spring and summer with an expected conclusion in late August. All races will be held “under the lights”.
“We are excited to welcome back our drivers and fans for what promises to be another outstanding year,” said Red Swain, track owner, and promoter. He along with his wife, Debbie, have made dirt track racing possible for the Albemarle region and southeastern Virginia, for nearly four decades. “Racing is alive and well in our area, and we can’t wait to showcase all the action and drama that will surely unfold for our fans to witness and be a part of.”
Defending track champions include; Billy Hubbard of Cobbs Creek, VA in the Budweiser Allstars, Joe Weiss of Elizabeth City in the Rapid Ron’s Racing Sportsman, Kevin Bray of Maple, NC in the Little Caesars Super Streets, Jason McCauley of Jarvisburg in the Biggs Cadillac, Buick, GMC Stock Fours and Kyle Barnes of Windsor, NC in the R & D Excavating Super Fours. All are expected to return to battle this season.

Season Opening Details:
Friday, May 3rd. Gates open at 5:00 p.m. Practice kicks off at 6:30 p.m. followed by qualifying and racing begins at 8:00 p.m. The Weekly Racer will be making their way down Friday night to continue their “Opening Season Kickoff Tour” and officially covering their first weekly program.
