Hampton, VA – Mother Nature appears to have a “heated” hatred for Late Model Stock Car racing this season as she has reared her ugly head more than a dozen times. The already rescheduled 10th Annual Hampton Heat 200 was once again postponed due to thunderstorms that made their way through the Commonwealth yesterday afternoon. Just has the final car took the checkered flag during single-car qualifying and pulled down pit road all hell broke loose from the atmosphere. Constant showers accompanied by some heavy thunder and lightning forced the hands of track officials to once again postpone the racing action. Lucky for us, this time it was only for about twelve hours.
For the first time in its now ten year history, the Hampton Heat 200 will not be run under the lights but in the heat of the day on a Sunday afternoon. Track owner Bill Mullis and long-time Langley Speedway promoter Chuck Hall was not going to be denied! The race will be scheduled to go on as if it were Saturday night; 200-laps in total, a break at lap 100 where teams can take two tires. $10,000 still on the line as well as precious Virginia Triple Crown points on the line.
Philip Morris, who has been lights out so far this year, will lead the field to green alongside of Peyton Sellers – winner of the opening round of the triple crown at South Boston Speedway back at the end of June. For those who cannot make the trip or those who could not return, we will have full coverage by following the link >> https://bit.ly/2Pi3EUG.
