Balluzzo Continues to Dominate IMCA Modifieds at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway

Hampton, VA – It was yet another weekend of Balluzzo domination in the IMCA style modifieds at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway. The nine-time and defending champion needed only one lap to lock down the pole position over Matt Carter, Bubba Johnston, Bobby Gery, and Danny Harrell.

When it was time to get down to business it looked as if Matt Carter got the best of Balluzzo coming to the green flag and cleared him and the rest of the field as they powered out of two. The field, however, would only complete one official lap before the yellow was displayed for a car going around in turns one and two. Carter did a wonderful job on the ensuing restart clearing Balluzzo again within a lap and looked to set a pretty decent pace.

While a great battle for position between Matt Morgan and Andrew Fortin for fifth, Balluzzo took the lead from Carter and never looked back. Getting slowed up just a little bit by a couple of lap cars in the closing laps, Shawn Balluzzo collected his fifth win of the 2018 season. Matt Carter, Bobby Gery, Bubba Johnston, Danny Harrell, Andrew Fortin, DJ Valente, and Brad Adams completed the top eight finishers – whom would all invert for the start of race two.

Instead of taking any chances starting in the middle of the pack and taking advantage of NASCAR’s bonus points, Balluzzo elected to start the second 30-lap feature from the tail end of the field.

Brad Adams wasted zero time jumping out to the lead once the green flag was displayed and actually had to chase the car a bit as the rear end tried to step out on him. He was able to keep it going in a semi-straight line and lead the field into one.

It did not take long for Carter and Balluzzo to pick their way through the field. However, it was very clear that the No. 48 of Shawn Balluzzo had the strongest car in the entire field. 18-laps is all it took for the winner of the first feature to retake the lead and go on to win his second feature of the night, sixth of 2018, and remain undefeated as he goes for his tenth series championship. His second win of the evening would come on the heels of two late-race restarts from cautions that saw the cars of Brad Adams, Bubba Johnston, and Matt Carter all get pretty heavy damage.

In other racing, Aaron Leach took the victory in the HRKC Wing Champ Kart race with the help of drafting partner Tillman Hueur. Charlie Bryant took home the victory in the first of two UCAR features after a hard hit to the outside wall took Brandon Wood out of contention and rookie Austin Davis dominated the second feature en route to his first career victory. Adam Florian and Travis Wall again showed they are the class of the field in the Riverside Paper Pro Six series. After winning the pole earlier in the afternoon, Wall showed the way for the first half of the race until Florian took over and took the win. Reno Marchetti went flag-to-flag in a rather physical Old Skool Video Games Super Street that witnessed three-wide racing on multiple occasions throughout the entire field.
