Hampton, VA – Shawn Balluzzo, 61 of Hampton, proved once again why he is a nine-time division champion in the modified division. Balluzzo won two of the three practice sessions earlier in the afternoon, qualified on the pole for the first twin, wins race one, elects to start from the rear in race two, drives through the field and wins race two.

The evening got off to a rough start for pole sitter Shawn Balluzzo when his car didn’t fire off as planned when Shayne Snider dropped the green flag. Outside pole sitter Matt Carter took full advantage of the mistake and stole the lead and set an incredible pace that force Balluzzo to keep up. The caution flag waved for the first and only time in race one after Andrew Fortin found himself facing the wrong way and a little rear end damage on lap twenty-one. Everyone was able to return to racing action and it was just what Balluzzo needed.

It was Carter who was slow to get going on the following restart giving Bobby Gary – who took the cone to start outside row one – a chance at the lead. Carter, however, was able to gather his machine back up out of two to hang onto the lead and brought Balluzzo with him and it was only a matter of laps before he took the top spot and the win. Matt Carter, Bubba Johnston, Danny Harrell, Brad Adams, Matt Carter, Bobby Gary, and Jamie Sample were the top eight finishers.

Per the NASCAR rulebook, no less than eight cars were inverted for the second thirty-lap feature handing the top spot over to Jamie Sample. Shawn Balluzzo elected to drop to the rear of the field before the green flag was displayed which made him eligible for the bonus points handed out by NASCAR for their Division II series.

The invert looked to be just what Sample needed to finally put that check mark in the win column. While Carter and Balluzzo worked their way through the field Jamie Sample did all he could to maneuver through the slower lap cars and keep Gary at bay. That was just what Carter needed to see so he could catch up and get in on the action.

However, in like any racer ever, the more the cars in front that battle for positions the easier it is for others to close the gap and that is just what Balluzzo was able to do. Once Balluzzo got to the back bumper of Carter it only took a handful of laps and a very careful run out of two to take the third position and he immediately set his eyes on Gary for second. Balluzzo would again get the help he needed from the flag stand when the caution waved on lap twenty-seven after Brad Adams went for a spin in turn two. Adams was not able to get the car re-fired, as he needed a push all night to get going, and the caution was displayed.

When the cone was displayed to the field on the front stretch, Sample and Gary elected to stay low while Balluzzo went high. The move proved to be the right one as Balluzzo powered to the lead out of turn two but things would be halted when total chaos broke out in turn four and the caution waved again. After scoring was figured out and the track deemed clean officials re-racked them – with Balluzzo again electing to start on the outside. This time Sample got a much better start, hung Balluzzo on the top groove for a lap before surrendering the lead to Balluzzo. He would go on to take his second checkered flag of the night and fourth of the season remaining undefeated in 2018. Jamie Sample, Bubba Johnston, Matt Carter, and Brad Adams rounded out the top five.

Landon Abbott went flag-to-flag from the pole position in the Old Skool Video Games Super Street to collect his first win of the season at Langley Speedway. Dale Nichols, Chris Roberts, Randy Akers, and Danny Harrell finish top five.
