Hampton, VA – Spencer Saunders paced the final round of practice this past Saturday at Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway in the INEX Legends series. With the K&N Pro Series East in town, INEX officials used the final round of practice to set the field for the 25-lap opening feature. Saunders was able to lay down a 17.773-second lap to earn him the right to lead Jackson, Price, Matthews, and Sylvestri to the green.

Saunders took the field into turn one as the sun was setting over the speedway in Hampton, Virginia with Jamie Price all over his rear nerf bar and Tommy Jackson Jr. tucked to his right side door. Saunders was able to take sole possession of the lead as the field powered off turn two and would least the first handful of laps. Before Jackson set him up for what would ultimately be the winning pass coming to lap four.

Four laps later Tommy Jackson Jr. had opened up an impressive gap on Saunders – who we later learned was battling a loose race car throughout the 25-lap feature. Saunders, Price, Matthews, and Sylvestri rounded out the top five and you could legit cover them with a full-size car cover, that was how close these drivers were to each other.

The first and only caution of the feature came on lap fourteen for the No. 14 of Connor Jones who looped it coming out of turn two and ultimately came to a halt down the backstretch. Once track officials removed Jones’ car from the racing surface INEX officials displayed the Car Master Restart Cone, Daniel Sylvestri was the first gamble and restart on the outside front row. He would ultimately fall back and in line behind Saunders in the third position.

The race went back green with just eleven laps to go and it was clear the heat cycle had an effect on the tires as Jackson was unable to pull away from Saunders has quick as he did before. Saunders almost got his wish at one more shot at the lead when Jamie Price fell off the pace and had to limp his machine back to pit road, however, the race remained green and Tommy Jackson Jr. cruised to his second victory of 2018 to tie Saunders. Daniel Sylvestri, Ryan Matthews, and Carter Wood rounded out the top five.

“She was good,” Jackson said in victory lane. “The car was good all day. We were able to keep up with the track conditions adjusting to the Goodyear K&N rubber. I slipped a bit in qualifying but we knew we had a good car in the long run so I was really confident going into the race. Always great to get back to Victory Lane and look forward to chasing more trophies”
