Wet Grounds and Forecast for Saturday Thunderstorms Forces Virginia Motor Speedway to Cancel Racing Activities for Saturday June 24th
Jamaica, VA – Wet weather and the forecast by the National Weather Service for heavy rain and thunderstorms on Saturday have forced officials to cancel racing activities for Saturday, June 24, 2017, at Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway.
“With the rain, we have already had, and more rain and possible thunderstorms headed our way we are forced to make this tough decision; no one hates a rain out more than we do”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer.
Sawyer added, “We feel it is in the best interest of our fans and competitors to go ahead and cancel tomorrow’s events rather than have them on the road in dangerous weather.” The speedway will take the weekend off
The speedway will take the weekend of Saturday, July 1st off in observance of the 4th of July holiday weekend. The Speedway will return to racing on Saturday, July 8, 2017, to host week 7 of the Aaron’s Dirt Series Championship Weekly Racing season when the Victory Lap Pro Late Models, Budweiser Modifieds, Truckin Thunder Sportsman and Collision One Limited Stock Cars return to action.
Admission price for Adults $12, seniors (60+) $10; military (active/retired w/ proper I.D.) $8, students 11 – 17 years old $6 and children 10 and under admitted free. Pit passes will be $20.
16” coolers are welcomed but no glass is allowed. There is plenty of free lit parking and camping (no hookups) is allowed at no charge on a first come first served basis.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway is a ½ mile dirt oval track is located on U.S. Route 17, eight miles north of Saluda, VA and 25 miles south of Tappahannock, VA in Jamaica, VA. The speedway is just a short drive from Richmond, Fredericksburg, Southern Maryland and the Hampton Roads area.
