Mother Nature Claiming Race in the Commonwealth Early – Langley and VMS Cancel
Hampton, VA – With the forecast in the Hampton Roads area not looking good at all later this afternoon and evening, officials and track managements at the newly renamed Larry King Law’s Langley Speedway have decided to cancel tonight’s feature’s early. “Due to the forecast for rain most of today,” speedway officials said on Facebook. “We have decided to cancel racing for tonight. We’ll see everyone back on May 6th!”
With over a 50% chance of rain throughout the early morning and gradually increasing throughout the afternoon and even higher percentages in the evening, it seems to be a smart move to help teams who might be traveling to save some money. Racing will resume at the famous 4/10th-mile speedway the weekend after the Monster Energy Cup Series races at Richmond on May 6th with Late Model’s, Modified’s, Super Street’s, Pro Six’s, Ucar’s, Winged Champ Karts and Enduros.
Bill Sawyer’s Virginia Motor Speedway has also decided to pull the plug early on the night’s features. “With the rain, we have already had, the cooler temperatures and more rain headed our way we are forced to make this tough decision; everyone hates a rain out”, commented track General Manager Clarke Sawyer. VMS will also take next weekend for the cup race in Richmond and will return to action on May 6th as well with Truckin Thunder Scout Night and will feature the 6th Annual Dirtwood Nationals Pinewood Derby and all Scouts in uniform will get in free.
Dominion Raceway in Thornburg has reported dry conditions and has so far continued with their race day schedule. A new weather update from the track will come via their Facebook page at 2:00 PM EDT.
