The Legend Continues at Langley Speedway – Green Flag Slated for 7 PM

Hampton, VA — When you lose something at home, school, or work you tend to go a little crazy. Get a little upset that the one thing you liked or just had is now nowhere to be found. That was the feeling that many people in the Hampton Roads area faced this time just a year ago. Langley Speedway was in fact not going to open. Something that had been a staple of the Hampton Roads community for sixty-five straight years was no more. Langley Speedway sat idle over the next sixteen months like a dormant volcano, quietly sitting there as its loved ones watched on. That is until this past February when that volcano erupted with the news of its re-opening.

“It feels great to be back home in front of all your fans and friends and family. Looking forward to seeing a packed house Saturday night.” -Brenden Queen #03 Late Model Stock

Bill Mullis and his staff, along with a few contractors and volunteers immediately got to work getting things back to where they belong within the facility to get the racers and fans back to where they belong – in the stands and on pit road. Langley Speedway will open its gates for the first time in 2017 for their 66th season and will once again be under the NASCAR banner with a full season of stock car racing to boot.

“DQM is excited to have our home track back and look forward to entertaining the fans this summer.” -Richard Quinn #31 Super Truck & Mike Kanary #33 Enduro.

The 2016 NASCAR Whelen All-American Series season was a true test to the statement “you don’t know what your missing till it’s gone.” With the speedway closed this took away the opportunity for a good portion of the drivers to race. Of course, some of the higher tiered divisions were able to travel to other tracks but most drivers ran into financial issues when sponsors did not want to pay for races outside of their market. With that all behind the Langley family, can now get back to what’s important – Saturday night short track racing.

“Langley Speedway is a home, my family, the only place I ever wanna be.” – Chris Bechtel #52 Wing Champ Kart

Five of the eleven divisions will headline Langley Speedway’s “Grand Re-Opening” if you will this Saturday. Pit gates and registration will open up for drivers and crews starting at 10:00 AM. Make sure you get there early and please, be patient with the staff, they want to get you in just as quickly as you want to get it but, as you know there are procedures to follow. General Admission gates and Practice is set to get underway at 2:00 PM EDT with qualifying scheduled at 4:30. The green flag for the Pomoco Opening Night at the Races is scheduled for 7:00 PM.

“Great to be back home where my racing all started . Look forward to seeing family and friends again and watching the progress of the youth of the track who will soon be the future stars of the track we all love so much.” – Mark Wertz #55 Late Model Stock

Langley Speedway officials are anticipating very large crowds for this weekend’s Opening Night Part 1, as they should be from the support found on various social media sites on the internet, and are suggesting fans to possibly carpool if they can to ensure there is ample parking for everyone. New this year is the ability to purchase tickets online via the track’s website found bellow. To help avoid long lines at the ticket windows think about purchasing your tickets in advance and bringing them with you.

“It means the world to my race team and I to be able to race again at my Home Track. All of my friends are able to come out and support us inlike if were racing out of town. I am more excited than I have been in a long time for opening night, hopefully we can put on a good show.” – Spencer Saunders #7
