Dominion Raceway Set to Add to NASCAR Experience With Thursday Night Racing
Thornburg, VA – As NASCAR rolls into Virginia in the last race in the regular season, Dominion Raceway looks to kick the weekend off with a weeknight full of racing. Breaking from the tradition of just cancelling your Saturday night program, officials at Dominion have decided to move their program up just a few short days and will run on Thursday night.
Four races are on the docket tomorrow night as the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series National points battle comes to an end. Late Models, Modified’s and INEX Bando’s will all have feature races under the lights. Gates are set to open at 4:00 PM with the green flag set to wave at 7:00 PM.
Nick Smith enters the weekend with eleven wins, the most of any driver this season at Dominion. However, he will have to make sure he is on top of his game to protect his eleven point lead in the championship standings over the next three events as anything can happen. After winning two of the last three events at Dominion, Hampton, VA native Nick Smith looks to continue his dominance at the high bank speedway enroute to what should be his first track championship in a Late Model Stock.
Track points are not the only thing on the line Thursday night as both Nick Smith and Doug Barnes, Jr are in need of full fields to better their position both in state points as well as the nation. Smith is currently sitting seventh in the nation and second in the state with 19 starts – 11 wins and 601 points. Doug Barnes, Jr. currently sits fifteenth in the nation and fourth in the state with just 18 starts – 2 wins and 564 points. With Dominion the only track running in Virginia this weekend expect to see the likes of National points leader Matt Bowling and Peyton Sellers.
Make sure to get to the track early to take part in the Virginia Racing Legends Autograph session located on the main concourse at 118 Bar & Grill from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM. Meet drivers like Curtis Markham, Charlie Ford, Roy Hendrick, Shayne Lockart, Phil Warren and Mark Wertz. Bandos will roll off for their 15-lap feature approx.. 6:30 with the invocation and National Anthem to follow at 7:00 PM. Modifieds will be first up with their 35-lap feature followed by the 150-lap LMSC feature and to finish the night up with 25-laps.
