Thornburg, VA – Chris Johnson cruised to victory in Saturday nights 35-lap Signature Home Settlements, LLC Modified series. Johnson earned the pole award earlier in the afternoon clocking in a time of 15.736 seconds or around 91.510 MPH. Allen Marshall (15.922) put down a lap just .186 seconds off the pace to sit second on the grid while Michael Johnson crossed the line third fastest at 15.946. The top three cars were inverted after the redraw, placing Michael Johnson on the pole and Chris Johnson behind him. Chris Humblet and Andrew Fortin rounded out the top five.

Took Chris Johnson less than five laps to regain the lead and start to check out on the field. The race was slowed just two times before the halfway point. Once for an incident we could not see at all and the second coming from Andrew Fortin loosing what looked to be a motor. His black and yellow number fifteen sat lifeless on pit road with tons of smoke coming from under the hood.

Racing got back underway pretty quick and Chris Johnson got back to his leading ways. Wayne Hartley, who started to come on strong at the conclusion of the season last year at Langley Speedway and had been running in the top five early, had a big wiggle coming out of two that would ultimately put an end to Hartley’s night. From then on he would lose position after position trying to salvage the best finish possible in an ill handling car.

With under ten laps to go, Chris Johnson had built himself a very comfortable lead while the battle started to heat up for second. Michael Johnson, who had been doing his best to hold off Chris Humblet all race, would have a third car in Robbie Babb to deal with. With the laps winding down Humblet had a slip of his own out of two allowing for Babb to close in fast. Gathering the car back up Humblet and keeping it off the wall, Humblet would cut across the nose of Babb forcing he and Bubba Johnston – who was running fourth – to get on the binders hard to avoid any major contact.

In the final laps both Babb and Johnston were able to gather their rides back up and get around Humblet for the third and fourth positions respectfully. Neither of them had anything for Johnson who cruised to his first victory of his career at Dominion Raceway and gained valuable points on Chris Humblet in the point’s race. The Modified’s will be back in action in two weeks on July 16th.
