The checks have been signed, the trophies handed out and the dust has settled – well actually the dust and the dirt have been hauled away and the Senator Bob Martin Agricultural Center has been turned back over to its original state. Another year in the books for what I am learning is one of the biggest spectacles in dirt kart racing in the region and Austin Yarbrough is able to etch his name into the record books beating out some of the best in the business if you will.

I Came, I Saw, I Conquered – should be motto over at Austin Yarbrough racing after the young man won four of the five races during the Saturday night portion of the Indoor Dirt Kart Championships in Williamston, North Carolina – taking trophies home in three more events the night before – winning seven of the eight races over the weekend he competed in. Qualifying third for the feature out of 45 karts (only 20 made it into the show) with a time of 9.733 seconds. The pole however set by Colby Horner just six hundreds of a second faster at 9.670. Now if my sources are correct in telling me the track was a 1/10th mile oval that pole speed was an average of 37.229 MPH. If you were there and saw the track you would know that was flat hauling the mail.

Pro Clone Heavy Starting 5;
1. #15x Colby Horner | 9.67
2. #154 Cody Sieber |9.714
3. #811 Austin Yarbrough | 9.733
4. #20 Adam Beville | 9.786
5. #100 J.L Furrow | 9.805

If we are speaking honestly here, and that’s really what we like to do around these parts, we thought this race was going to be a little bit wilder than it was. After the crazy events prior with the wrecks in the Sr. Champ Animal class to what broke out just a few races before in Clone Super Heavy – one would think with $3,000 on the line things would get a little crazy. Guess that’s why these guys and gals have “Pro” in front of their class.

It was rather quite amazing at just how fast the race was over! I have covered my fair share of bigger races with a lot of action going on all over the place but 20 cars doing laps in under ten seconds was just an experience in its own. You would blink and almost miss something. Needless to say it was pretty difficult to keep up with my “one update a lap” policy I police myself, and my crew with.

Yarbrough was able to grab the lead just before halfway with an impressive move from third to first place and it was just about all she wrote. It wasn’t a complete walk in the park or run away so to speak Colby Horner had a late charge to the rear bumper of the black 811 machine but just did not have the speed to make anything happen, finishing second just two tenths of a second behind. Jonathan Cash, who honestly and with all due respect not firing on all cylinders this past weekend came home with a respective third place finish after having plenty of issue in previous races just half a second back followed by Jerry Mullis and Cody Siber.

We caught up with Austin after the race to talk a bit about the race and his overall accomplishment of almost batting a thousand in the races he was registered in. “[We] had tough some tough luck in Pro Flathead there but we got things back together,” said Yarbrough. “Won three last night, and four today and had an awesome run there in Pro Clone.” Austin also made mention that after so many classes has run both nights the kart was just a little snug off the corners but it was just a minor set back and ultimately loved the track. One thing is for sure, he is certainly going to love cashing that $3,000 check. The rest of the finishing order can be found bellow.
