TWR Teams Up to Compete In iRacing’s First Official 24 Hour Race
Newport News, Va – As the 53rd running of the Rolex 24 hour race at Daytona as been etched in the books; the ever popular iRacing simulation software has set to host their first official 24 hour race in program history. With that being said sim racing enthusiasts from all over the WORLD have been gearing up for what should be one crazy event. Modeling much of the event after that of the 24 hour race at Daytona, iRacing will utilize its relatively new Team Driver format to complete this feat. A pair or group of friends from all over the United States have the opportunity to run the same car at the same track against… well against the whole nation.
iRacing introduced Team Driving I believe in the final season of 2014. The way this works is Driver A takes the car out completes X amount of laps. When it is time to switch, that driver takes the car down pit road and into their box. That driver then exits the car as they usually would and the next person clicks the button to enter the car. Assuming the pit stop is complete at that time the second, or third driver then takes off for his set of time.
It is with great excitement to announce The Weekly Racer has been invited to team up with other Langley Speedway personnel to compete in this event. The team will be made up from two previous Daytona 2.4 winners (iRacings fir edition of endurance driving, a two-hour and forty min solo race), driver of the #03 Queen Motorsports LMSC – Brenden Queen and the man behind the lens of King Charles Photography – Charlie Alexander. “It’s no longer just a game like everyone thinks,” said Alexander – 2014 Daytona 2.4 winner in the Riley Prototype class. “This endurance race is as realistic as it gets.”
Driver of the #70 Abbott Motorsports Super Street at Langley Speedway Landon Abbott joins the team, looking for redemption from his first 2.4 hour event on the server. “I ran the 2.4 last year,” Abbott told The Weekly Racer. “Got involved in a turn one lap one incident which eventually resulted in motor failure.” Final member of the double tandem is yours truly, the man behind the keys of The Weekly Racer. Having been the one on the team who has the least drive time in the sim I am just hoping to keep the fenders on it and put in some good laps.
Everything kicks off this weekend, January 31st at 8am running through the night with the checkered flag at 8am Sunday morning.
